OROPHILE

Travel Second Opinion — the human layer for AI travel plans

A hotelier's second opinion on your hotel shortlist

Orophile Journeys offers an independent hotelier's second opinion on your hotel shortlist. Founder Ahmet Can Yeşildağ, a former hotel general manager with more than thirty years of hospitality experience, reviews your shortlisted hotels, spa hotels or retreats with you on a live video call before you book. It is fee-only. The Travel Advisory Hour costs CA$75 + HST.

What AI shortlists get right, and where they slip

AI tools, booking sites and review platforms are good at producing a shortlist. They surface hotels in the right area, summarise thousands of reviews and filter by price and rating faster than anyone could by hand. A shortlist of three good candidates is a real step forward.

The hard part is choosing between them, and that is where the published picture slips. Review summaries average out the very details that matter to you. Words like "spa", "wellness" and "retreat" can describe anything from a hotel with a sauna to a full residential programme. The model cannot tell which wing your room is in, whether the spa runs on a booking system that fills days ahead, or why the same room costs different amounts on different sites.

I spent my career on the other side of the front desk: in senior leadership at Hilton, Radisson, Marriott and Titanic, and as general manager of Park Inn by Radisson Baku, named The Best Hotel 2014 (Deliver Results) by Carlson Rezidor. Orophile Journeys is the human layer on top of your research: one hotelier reading your shortlist the way an operator reads a property.

What I check

  • Room category against the photos. Which category you are booking, which wing or building it is usually in, and whether the photos show it or the suite upstairs.
  • Real walking and transfer times. "Steps from the beach" and "near the old town" measured in real minutes, including the airport transfer and a spa that may sit in a separate building.
  • Pacing. For spa hotels and retreats, whether the schedule leaves real rest, and whether treatment and class times are likely to be available on your dates.
  • Booking conditions and cancellation. Prepaid versus flexible rates, deposit rules, the real cancellation deadline and the no-show policy.
  • Rate parity and inclusions. The same room compared across channels, and what each rate actually includes: breakfast, spa access, treatments, classes, transfers.
  • Resort and local fees. Resort fees, city or tourism taxes and service charges that are not in the headline price.
  • Seasonality. Shoulder-season renovations, closed outlets, weather and local holidays that change the stay.

How it works

  1. Book the Free Introduction. Twenty minutes on video, free. We scope the decision. I do not give hotel advice in this call; it is there to confirm that an hour with me is the right next step.
  2. Send your shortlist. Book the Travel Advisory Hour and send the hotels or retreats you are weighing, your dates, who is travelling and what matters most to you.
  3. We compare them live. Sixty minutes, face to face on video. You leave knowing which option fits, what to ask the hotel, and what to verify before you pay. You decide, and you book directly.

What it costs

  • Free Introduction: 20 minutes, video, free.
  • Travel Advisory Hour: CA$75 + HST. If the hour gives you nothing usable, the fee is returned.
  • Journey Planning Week: CA$250 + HST per journey: up to three shortlisted options compared over seven calendar days, with a written Keep / Change / Verify / Simplify / Specialist Input review and each point tagged verified, supplier-reported or not available. The Advisory Hour fee is credited, so the upgrade is CA$175 + HST. See the Journey Planning Week page.

Prices are in Canadian dollars; 13% HST is added.

What I don't do

Orophile Journeys is fee-only. I make no bookings, take no commissions and organise no tours, and I cannot guarantee a lower price, an upgrade or perks. I do not assess the health effects of any spa, treatment or programme: medical, accessibility, legal, immigration and safety questions go to qualified specialists. Travel advice is not treatment. More on how I work.

Who it's for

This is for travellers down to two or three hotels who want an experienced, independent view before paying. It suits a spa hotel or wellness retreat where the label could mean many things, a long or expensive stay, a family needing the right room configuration, or anyone who has read every review and still cannot decide. It also works as one part of a wider Travel Second Opinion.

Free self-check: seven questions to ask about your hotel shortlist

  1. Is the room in the photos the room category you are booking, and which building or wing is it in?
  2. What is the total cost per night after taxes, resort fees and local charges?
  3. Is the same room offered on more flexible terms, or with more included, on the hotel's own website?
  4. For a spa hotel or retreat, what exactly is included (facility access, treatments, classes) and what is extra?
  5. Can treatments or classes be booked ahead, and how full are they likely to be on your dates?
  6. How long does it really take, on foot or by car, to reach the places you care about?
  7. What happens to your money if you cancel two weeks before arrival?

If any answer is "I don't know", that is the question worth bringing to a second opinion.

Questions people ask

Is this a travel agent?

No. Orophile Journeys is a fee-only Travel Second Opinion. I do not book hotels, earn commissions from them or organise tours. You pay for my judgement on your shortlist, then you book directly with the hotel or channel you choose. Because no hotel pays me, I have no reason to favour one option over another.

Why not just ask the AI again?

Asking again re-reads the same reviews and descriptions. AI is useful for building a shortlist, but it cannot always tell you which wing a room category sits in, how a spa schedule fills, or what a rate really includes. A former hotel general manager adds operating knowledge that published information rarely shows.

Do you work with people outside Canada?

Yes. I am based in Oakville, Ontario, and review hotel shortlists online with travellers anywhere through live video. Sessions are available in English and Turkish. Prices are shown in Canadian dollars, and the booking page shows available times in your own time zone.

What do I need to send?

Send links to the hotels, spa hotels or retreats on your shortlist, your travel dates, who is travelling and the room types or rates you are looking at. Tell me what matters most, such as quiet, location, spa access or flexibility. No medical or confidential information is needed.

How is this different from an automated itinerary checker?

An automated checker reads the same listings and reviews you have already seen. Orophile Journeys is a person: you talk with me face to face on live video and get the view of someone who has run hotels. I compare your options the way an operator would, and I tell you plainly what I cannot verify.

What if the hour doesn't help?

If the Travel Advisory Hour gives you nothing usable, the fee is returned. If it helps and you want a fuller comparison, the CA$75 is credited toward a Journey Planning Week, so the upgrade costs CA$175 + HST and includes a written review of up to three shortlisted options.
